LIMS Manages Terabyte Volumes Of Data In Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory
Solution: LIMS
Lurie Children’s Hospital
Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago used Matrix Gemini LIMS in its Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) project to track and access the huge volumes of data and help streamline the human interpretation of the DNA sequencing results.
Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago used Matrix Gemini LIMS in its Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) project to track and access the huge volumes of data and help streamline the human interpretation of the DNA sequencing results.
CHALLENGES
- Large volumes of data
- Speeding up clinical analysis
- New solution speeds up the interpretation and reporting process
SOLUTION
RESULTS
- Handles complex testing requirements such as parents/children investigations
- Samples tracked throughout
The Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Illinois, is dedicated to providing excellent pediatric care in a setting that offers the latest benefits and innovations in medical technology. The HLA and Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory at the hospital provides HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) typing for stem cell transplantation purposes and DNA (DeoxyriboNucleic Acid) testing services using DNA sequencing as well as some RNA (Ribonucleic Acid) testing for leukemias. Approximately 90% of the testing carried out is for clinical patient work, and the remainder is related to clinical R&D. The laboratory uses Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), a parallel sequencing technique, which means that millions of small fragments of DNA can be sequenced at the same time.
