BioResource Centre Uses Matrix Gemini LIMS Within Its Biorepository
Solution: LIMS
Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital
A major London biorepository has chosen Matrix Gemini LIMS to track all samples and associated clinical data within the biorepository, and maximize the storage space within its freezers.
Guy's and St Thomas' BioResource is part of the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London. Matrix Gemini LIMS is used to track all samples within the biorepository and allows the most efficient use of storage space.
CHALLENGES
- Automating BioResource management
- Efficiently use storage space
- Locating samples and associated patient records
SOLUTION
RESULTS
- Automates biorepository management process
- Full sample tracking including parent/child samples, aliquots, derivatives etc.
- Easily store and find samples with associated clinical information
- Chain-of-custody reporting meets regulatory requirements
The Guy’s and St Thomas’ BioResource facility provides expertise on all aspects of the collection of human samples. It is part of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) BioResource which operates across eight centres in the UK and aims to establish cohorts of healthy volunteers and patients who have provided clinical information and biological samples. Blood and saliva samples are generally collected and DNA extracted and used for genotyping. This, in conjunction with phenotyping, allows individuals to be selected and invited to participate in experimental medicine studies.
